Description: |
Marten Thavenius created Aptifer Sans and Aptifer Slab, two 21st century typeface families. Each family has seven weights, in roman and italic respectively, making 28 font styles in total. Aptifer was inspired by the straight and slightly condensed old American gothic typefaces like those from Morris Fuller Benton. Their qualities were combined with demands for legibility and openness without going too deep into the humanist tradition. Aptifer Sans is a typeface without extreme details that disturb the reading while Aptifer Slab with its wedge slab serifs are more eye catching although not an display only face with heavy slab serifs. Apart from the black weight in the slab family that is best suited to be set in larger sizes; it is more of a text face in the same way as Aptifer Sans but with another appearance due to the serifs. Both families are highly legible and can be used in small sizes both in print and on screen. Aptifer Sans and Slab share the same basic skeletons for the glyphs. Stroke contrast and the vertical stress are also the same. Serifs in Aptifer Slab are all sharp cut wedge serifs without curves; only straight lines have been used. The Aptifer families have a wide range of possible usage; you can use it both for body text and display. You may use it in magazines and newspapers, for corporate graphics, or for signage. Its slightly condensed nature could be used either for the effect itself or for space saving economy. |
